Caterpillar’s remote monitoring solution for construction equipment went on the first machines in 2001. The initial Product Link™ system provided either the basic location and hour usage of the machine, or the expanded diagnostic monitoring, providing valuable machine and operator performance data. Both versions were geared toward helping the customer increase productivity and reduce downtime.
Later versions would introduce cellular connectivity for machine usage in enclosed areas without visibility to a satellite, integration with online parts ordering, improved interfaces, and additional diagnostic reporting.
“We’re selling up time and helping customers avoid unexpected failures. That increases the efficiency of the machine and reduces the cost of ownership in the long run.”
Mark Kincer, Yancey Bros. Co.
