Paving the Road to Stone Mountain

On March 31, 1920, MacDougald Construction Company broke ground on the paving of the road from Clarkston to Stone Mountain. By November 1 the same year, work would be completed on what would later be known as the Stone Mountain Highway.

The Atlanta Constitution reported that MacDougald would “have the most improved machinery for carrying on the work” and would employ a workforce of 250 men.

“If you figure out everything on a sound mathematical basis and surround yourself with good men and equipment, there’s nothing to it.” Alex MacDougald, MacDougald Construction
